Bang bang

Winter mornings are good. The only trouble is that they are good for sleep. And they get better during a workday. Sleep works in mysterious ways. He had to be at work at 8 and in this part of the world, the sun does not even rise completely at this time. Which meant that when he got up at 6, it was pitch dark outside except for the streetlights and the headlights of some lousy early risers.

That morning, he got up as usual at 6 and started with his morning activities - checking mails, responding to mails and deleting unwanted mails. No wonder his married wife left him - he always favored work before life. Work life balance was tilted firmly in one direction. But they did manage to bring a son into this world before going their separate ways. Strangely, the son was asked to stay with the dad. He worked a lot, earned a lot and took care of his son a lot less.

A bucket list of things was always put on hold in his life. Some stuff in the bucket were normal things like a long vacation with his son, fishing trip with his son, visit to the mall with his son, movie with his son etc. Some were not so normal things like attending parent teacher meeting for his sin, teaching the value of family to his son, giving a good bye hug to his son etc. Anything to do with "his son" was always in the list. There was always a tomorrow to strike things off the list. Maybe once he completed working to his full potential and to his full satisfaction, he will spend quality time with his son and make up for all the lost time. That day will definitely come.

That day day never came. He heard in the news that afternoon that something happened in his son's school. Something which should never happen in a school. Something which sounds terrifying - bang bang.
