The Cuckoo from Black Forest

I bought a cuckoo clock when I visited Black Forest during my trip to Germany. But it resided safely in it's box for the last 4 months. After we shifted to our new house, it was time to get the cuckoo out and make it do some time-keeping.

Assembling the clock was an easy job and not very difficult as I had imagined. But the problem was that even the slightest breeze made it stop. First, the fan had to be switched off because when the fan was on, the clock refused to work. And on Saturday at around 11 AM, a slight breeze began to come from the window and the clock stopped again. Any breeze in hot hot Chennai is welcome. So we preferred the breeze and did not close the window. The clock started working again at night when it was not disturbed by a fan in the hall or a breeze from the window.

But something amazing happened the next day (Sunday). We switched on the fan and the clock did not stop working. Neither did the breeze from the window stop the clock. My mom's theory was the clock was "acclimatised" to Chennai conditions!!! But what was even more interesting was that the sound of the cuckoo seemed louder. Again my mom's theory was that the cuckoo was adjusting to people's hearing capacity. That definitely was spooky!!!

Anyway, the cuckoo clock bought for a princely sum of 83 Euros is working perfectly fine and the cuckoo's sweet voice intimates the time every half an hour.
