Naya ghar

We (actually my parents and my sis) shifted to our new house in Velachery last weekend. Shifting from point A to point B with all your belongings is one hell of a job. Add to it the humidity of Chennai. Just sitting under a fan will make you sweat. But finally we reached point B at around 11:30 PM 14.05.2005.

The next day was unpacking day - whatever was packed was unpacked and each thing had to find it's own place in the new home. As with any new home, this had a lot of defects - this not right, that not working etc. It will take some time for things to settle down. And since we were the first to check-in in the whole building and work still going on, it will also take some time for the dust to settle down. But staying in your house with no rent and no landlord is by itself a great feeling which makes every other problem look like nothing.

Some people believe that owning a house is nothing more than investment and as soon as an opportunity comes, sell it off because owning your own house is a liability. I did not like the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and the ideas expressed in it. One can never say that Rich dad will be happy and content in life or that Poor Dad was a really unhappy guy. Money is not everything. But then, this is my own view. The most important thing is that I am happy.
