Flicker

I remember when I was in college, it was widely publicised that on a certain day, Earth will pass through a patch of rocks leftover from a asteroid or meteor or whatever. And the night sky will be illuminated with natural fireworks when these rocks get burnt as they enter our atmosphere. So we all went to our hostel building terrace and waited for almost the whole night. But the whole spectacle lasted for just 2 minutes or so (or atleast we were able to see only that much). But it looked really really beautiful as our atmosphere turned rock into fire. Those 2 minutes were worth the full night's wait.

Even in life we wait for something really brilliant to happen. But sometimes the brilliant moment lasts only for a few seconds, minutes or days. We feel good when it happens. And wish that you could hit the Pause button and freeze time and let the moment last forever. God has cleverly not authorised us to use that functionality. We struggle to prolong the moment, but it has to end finally. It leaves a trail of frustration (at not able to retain something you like so much), anger and sense of loss. But Time is the greatest healer. We realize that some things are meant to last only for a short time and prolonging it will only kill the happiness.

The greatest mistake one can do is to go searching for moments that change lives. They come when they have to come. Enjoy it as long as they last. As Will Smith says in the movie Hitch - "Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away".
